Director, Brand Engagement

The director of brand engagement will foster Alberta Ballet’s connection to a larger, more engaged, and more loyal community.
The successful candidate will help ignite the curiosity and imagination of dance lovers across Alberta, crafting the story of how dance builds stronger communities.
As a member of the senior leadership team, the director will spearhead marketing and communication strategies to reach our wide audience continuum—from dance students to single ticket holders to life-long subscribers and donors. The director will oversee the marketing strategy, market insights and design functions for all of Alberta Ballet. In-person events, traditional and digital marketing, advertising, and promotions are all components of this portfolio.
Key Deliverables/Responsibilities
Engagement:
- Develop Alberta Ballet’s long-term engagement strategy in support of the Alberta Ballet 2021-2025 strategic plan.
- Provide leadership, vision and guidance in the development, execution, and management of the client experience and Voice of Customer (VOC) programs.
- Use data-driven research and creativity to increase stakeholder engagement.
- Implement programming strategies in support of Alberta Ballet-branded experiences (such as receptions, events, membership programs, community events).
- Collaborate with other departments to execute all project phases.
- Analyze performance of plans and campaigns and provide regular updates, including reports and data collection.
Marketing:
- Create and implement Alberta Ballet’s brand strategy, working in concert with the artistic team to ensure brand alignment throughout the organization.
- Create and lead a multi-year audience growth and engagement strategy.
- Develop and implement marketing plans that align with Alberta Ballet’s business goals to increase brand awareness, customer loyalty and overall revenue growth.
- Evaluate customer research, market conditions and competitor data, to create go-to-market strategies.
- Lead and support the production of marketing collateral to meet brand and sales objectives.
- Work with external partners on advertising and media buying to support sales strategies and revenue targets, especially as these relate to large event live performances.
- Supervise the development and deployment of an effective social media strategy and plan for Alberta Ballet in collaboration with communications.
- Develop KPIs to measure, report, test and optimize content for audience engagement and retention.
Leadership:
- Direct the creative services department; ensure staff work aligns with the goals and objectives in Alberta Ballet’s strategic plan.
- Oversee marketing budgets and forecasting, focusing on strong expense management and revenue-generating opportunities.
- Oversee the assignment of work; monitor project status and timeline; provide coaching to develop and retain talented staff.
- As part of the senior management team, contribute to a team environment focused on strategy, knowledge-sharing, and staff development.
- Develop and maintain trustworthy, productive, problem-solving working relationships with colleagues and staff.
Qualifications & Key Competencies
- Love for dance and the arts.
- Commitment to equity, diversity, and inclusion.
- Must possess own vehicle and valid driver’s license with a willingness to travel regularly throughout the province.
- A post-secondary degree in business, marketing, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.
- Minimum of 10 years experience in marketing and events management, with at least five years at a senior level and responsible for staff management.
- Demonstrated experience in implementing strategic marketing and community engagement plans, including effective creation and execution of projects and campaigns aimed at multiple audiences.
- Strong interpersonal skills and a proven ability in building and maintaining relationships.
- Understanding of and experience in digital advertising platforms, social media, content marketing and email marketing.
- Demonstrated ability to lead and work with staff and leadership at various levels.
- Excellent project and time management skills, with an ability to work under pressure and tight deadlines; can handle multiple priorities with competing deadlines.
- Possesses strong analytical and problem-solving skills, and an ability to manage external vendors.
- Proven track record as a strong leader with sophisticated skills in organizational strategy, financial acumen, and management.
Successful candidates will be required to complete a police background check as a condition of employment.
