Program and Communications Coordinator
Alberta Music is a non-profit, member-based industry association. For 35 years we have been dedicated to helping professionals in the music industry succeed in their careers. We represent over 700 members in all facets of the music industry including artists from all genres, industry professionals, studios, venues and festivals.
Alberta Music provides professional development, marketing, and business development support to nurture and promote the growth of the Alberta music industry. We are advocates in promoting business and creative opportunities.
We are looking for an individual to join our team as the program and communications coordinator. This position is in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment. The position is responsible for assisting in the delivery of Alberta Music’s programming as well as creating and maintaining online content and the outgoing communications of Alberta Music.
The program and communications coordinator will work with the program manager and member services committee to meet the professional development needs of our membership.
The ideal candidate is aware of musician and music industry professionals’ needs, current trends, enjoys attending live shows and networking. This position will be based out of our Calgary office, 9:00am to 4:30pm, Monday to Thursday, unless there is an evening or weekend event, in which case time in lieu would be provided.
Reports to: Program manager and executive director
Type: Full-time (one-year contract)
Salary: Commensurate with experience. Health benefits package available.
Start Date: As soon as possible.
Key Responsibilities:
- Assist in the planning, promotion and delivery of Alberta Music’s various programs and projects including but not limited to DOWNLOAD, LIVESTOCK, and Project WILD.
- Assist with on-site event management.
- Assist in preparing funding grant applications, final reports, budgets, and cost reports.
- Review program final reports including receipts, analytics, graphics, and results.
- Oversee project expense tracking, allocation, and documentation.
- Basic day-to-day bookkeeping administration.
- Provide career consultations and outreach for members.
- Assist in creating and maintaining support resource materials.
- Creation and implementation of Alberta Music’s communications and social media strategies.
- Leading on-site social media.
- Analyze social media presence, monitor internal campaigns and contribute ideas for engagement and outreach.
- Assists in researching local, domestic and international industry and member news for Alberta Music’s biweekly e-newsletter.
- Communicate with musicians, industry professionals and stakeholders to keep them informed of the work of the organization.
- Attend and represent Alberta Music at local and national DOWNLOAD sessions, showcases and networking events as needed.
- Various office and administrative duties as required.
Knowledge and Experience:
- Knowledge and awareness of both musicians and music industry professionals’ needs, along with current trends and circumstances in an ever-changing industry and regulatory environment.
- Experience in event planning and execution.
- Basic bookkeeping administration (AR/AP) via Excel spreadsheet, not including data input into an accounting software.
- Experience in social media, marketing and promotion as it pertains to musicians and the music industry.
- A combination of education, training and relevant experience with a minimum two-years of administration and coordination experience in a non-profit sector organization, membership-based organizations would be an asset.
Skills and Abilities:
- Excellent time management and organizational skills.
- Strong verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrates strong writing and editing skills.
- Exhibits proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
- Exhibits excellent interpersonal skills.
- Experience in WordPress, Mailchimp, and Adobe would be an asset.
- Manages time efficiently and in an effective switch tasker.
- Ability to logically think through projects in a step-by-step manner.
- Collaborating with other team members to ensure effective dissemination of information.
- Flexible: Able to work evenings and weekends.
- Show professional conduct with internal and external clients—as staff of Alberta Music, you are always representing the organization.
- A valid driver’s license, a valid passport and the ability to cross international borders.
