Animation Facilitator

This is a temporary part-time contract opportunity offering approximately three hours per week for three to four months, mid-November 2023 through March 2024. The position is in-person with the possibility of remote or hybrid upon approval.

Who We Are

The National accessArts Centre, affectionately named the NaAC, is an amazing but fast-paced, work environment where we all collaborate to provide artistic training, creation, exhibition, and present opportunities for artists living with disabilities. As a creativity hub for artists living with disabilities, so often limited in their opportunities and choices, we blur the lines between professional artists, artists with disabilities, entrepreneurs, innovators, and storytellers by sharing their work internationally and re-shaping how the world views and appreciates their talents and place in our communities.

Who You Are

You are an enthusiastic animator with a passion for sharing your knowledge with others, including those with development/physical disabilities and neurodiversity who have little to no knowledge of animation. Heavy on demonstrable animation skills with some project management experience, you’re seeking the opportunity and autonomy to showcase your talent and support new creators. You can’t wait to design, plan, and facilitate a program for participants whose end goal is to create complete animated works. Being and adaptive and inclusive is one of your greatest strengths and flexing your teaching style to meet the learning needs and methods of others is a breeze.

The Role

Working closely with the coordinator, artistic projects to create a budget and ensure alignment with the NaAC’s programming goals, the animation facilitator (AF) will plan and lead up to 12 weekly classes on the animation topic of their choice. Possible ideas for topics could include traditional animation, 3D animation, modelling, or rotoscoping – overall, we are looking for you to present a topic that reflects your practice.

The main objectives will be:November 2023

  • Design and plan curriculum for approximately 12 weekly classes, January through March 2024, that will take participants through the foundations of animation to completed works (this portion may begin in November – to be negotiated).
  • Provide the NaAC with a list of required participant supplies in advance of the program start in January 2024.
  • Complete any necessary administrative and budgeting tasks to fulfill the program and contract requirements.

January – March, 2024

  • Deliver two-hour classes, in person, on a weekly basis for the duration of the program (our preference is in-person but we are open to negotiating remote delivery if required).
  • Provide artistic coaching and mentorship to participants.
  • Adapt communication teaching style and/or content weekly based on participant feedback and abilities.
  • Set up and clean up of each class.
  • Ensure all participants have all necessary supplies and equipment (this may be discussed with the coordinator, artistic projects in advance).
  • Keep the coordinator, artistic projects informed of class progress or challenges.

The program also involves some administration and budgeting tasks that may be completed remotely.

As a contractor, you will be expected to provide your own workspace for any work outside of actual class delivery, all necessary software, computer equipment that you will use. The NaAC will be responsible for providing participant supplies and will manage marketing, participant enrolment and registration fees.

Contract Value

The total approximate value of this contract will be $900.00 CAD and is subject to change based on the number of classes required (based on a maximum of 12 classes delivered at $75 per class; includes all advance preparation).
