Artistic Director Position
Instrumental Society of Calgary

The artistic director (AD) of Instrumental Society of Calgary is an important champion for the ISC, building relationships with a diverse array of artists, and exploring donor and partnership opportunities within Calgary’s communities. The ISC prides itself on showcasing local Calgary musicians and featuring works by female and minority composers on each concert.
The following list includes (but is not limited to) the AD’s responsibilities:
- Lead the curation of each Season’s concerts from programs submitted by Calgary musicians (the AD would solicit and gather such submissions, then lead a programming committee to create each season)
- Envision a theme for each concert season
- Create a vision for the ISC’s future while respecting it’s illustrious past
- Attend every concert, engage and greet patrons, deliver land acknowledgements, messages and promote the ISC
- Manage and facilitate logistical details for each concert (piano rentals, negotiate venue fees, artist compensation)
- Seek out community connections and partnerships for concerts and opportunities
- Partner with marketing staff to create strategies to increase ticket sales
- Partner with grant-writing staff and the ISC outreach co-ordinator to create strategies to maintain grants and outreach opportunities
- Lead the ISC’s possible future rebrand to Chamber Music YYC
Compensation for this position is $6,000 per concert season (compensation for the remainder the 23 – 24 concert season TBD).
This vacancy is immediate and it is the ISC’s goal to appoint a new artistic director by February 1, 2025.
