Facilities Maintenance

Reporting to the director, facility operations, the facilities maintenance role is responsible for tending to the physical assets of Arts Commons through repairs to the building’s infrastructure and other basic maintenance repairs.

You are a jack of all trades, possessing a combination of hands-on working knowledge of facility repair and a self-motivated, positive attitude towards fixing any challenge that you may encounter. You are someone with experience in the trades and all things handy work.

You’re often juggling tasks but are tactful and organized in how you approach your to-do list and prioritizing the various maintenance and repair projects within the building. You can work well under pressure and are adaptable to the unique working conditions of facility repair and maintenance in a large performing arts venue.

Daily service requests may be new or unusual, but you are able to apply your operational knowledge, skills, and understanding of facility policies and procedures to fix any problem with minimal instruction. Regardless of the task at hand, you are always ensuring that safety remains top of mind.

What You Will Get To Do Here

As a unique performing arts venue with numerous theatres, offices, and galleries all within our historical space, the facilities maintenance position is tasked with ensuring that all general maintenance and repairs relating to the Arts Commons’ infrastructure are addressed in order to ensure safe operations and a comfortable environment for all staff and patrons. This includes identifying preventative maintenance and performing routine building maintenance repairs. Day to day tasks will vary depending on current projects and facility maintenance needs identified through building service requests.

Daily operational tasks for facilities maintenance will often encompass a variety of fields (e.g. carpentry, electrical, heating, ventilation, HVAC, plumbing, etc.).

Strategic Goals

Perform skilled maintenance and repair work to the building infrastructure to ensure that the facilities are properly maintained and meet or exceed OH&S, governmental, environmental and industry regulations and standards.

Where You Fit Within Our Ecosystem

The facilities maintenance role is part of the facilities team within Arts Commons’ venue operations department. Reporting to the director, facility operations, this role works closely with all departments and resident companies within the Arts Commons building to address any facility maintenance and repair needs. This position also works closely with building operators, security, and various contractors working within the building.

You Will Be A Great Fit If You…

Must haves:

  • Three to five years experience in areas relating to facilities maintenance or trades (e.g. carpentry, electrical, heating, ventilation, HVAC, plumbing, etc.).
  • Working knowledge of lighting fixtures and their components.
  • Working knowledge of door hardware and applications.
  • Skilled in the demolition and installation of dry wall and related finishes in a commercial environment.
  • High level of experience with power tools and their safe operation.
  • High level of finishing carpentry and painting skills.
  • The ability to address minor plumbing repairs.
  • Knowledgeable and able to work confidently in computer programs such as Microsoft Office and Outlook.
  • Ability to work efficiently both unsupervised and within a team structure.
  • Ability to work at heights.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs.
  • The physical ability to load and unload deliveries.

Nice to have:

  • A relevant certificate/diploma/degree from a recognized trades school or comparable education and experience.
  • Professional trades license.
  • A passion for the arts!
