Commons Transformation Project (ACT) Expansion

Arts Commons | CMLC

Budget: $1.32 million
Deadline to submit: March 4, 2025

The Arts Commons Expansion will be a distinctive addition to Calgary’s downtown and its architectural design emphasizes both functionality and artistic expression. The ACT Expansion north wall plays and essential role in further enhancing the public space beneath the canopy. The artwork will transform a stretch of the ground level area which would otherwise be somewhat opaque due to the necessity of adjacent loading infrastructure. The inclusion of public art here is a strategic move to soften and enliven this long public façade of the building. Calgary Municipal Land Corporation (CMLC) and Art to Public seek an artist or artist team to create an artwork(s) for the ACT Expansion through this unencumbered call. CMLC encourages all locally, nationally and internationally qualified artists to apply. The public art design will beautify, activate and enliven the Arts Commons campus. The successful artist/artist team will work with CMLC, Arts Commons, the design team KPMB Architects, Hindle Architects and TAWAW Architecture Collective and the Construction Manager EllisDon to coordinate design, fabrication and installation.
