Arts Projects Coordinator

The position of arts projects coordinator is an exciting and diverse role, integral to the company. The arts pprojects coordinator role is split into two facets: events/ projects and marketing. This person is responsible for organizing, coordinating, and the execution one of Calgary’s most exciting events: Northern Reflections Inglewood – an annual event in January that promotes artists, animators, and musicians in an open-air augmented reality (AR) self-guided festival. Other events and projects may include art installations, client installations, AR experiences, and one day events. On the marketing side, the special projects coordinator is responsible for maintaining the MAUD Collective’s presence online, creating marketing materials, social media posts, and other general marketing tasks.

The successful candidate will work closely with the executive director and support staff, and assist in all areas. To be successful in this role, the individual requires a can-do attitude, an organized nature, and a willingness to tackle anything. Successful candidates will be creative, adaptable, and skilled problem solvers, with an enthusiasm for working with artists, and supporting arts development in Calgary.

MAUD Collective is an arts organization dedicated to creative culture, experiences, and placemaking. Using engagement as the main driver, MAUD fosters a creative community through its commitment to supporting, compensating, and providing development opportunities to local artists while engaging them with technology, and place. We create aesthetic-driven activations, and experiences that are led by artists in partnership with community organizations, city partners, and arts collaborators.

Specific Responsibilities

  • Planning and coordinating Northern Reflections Inglewood Festival.
  • Responsibilities include marketing and promoting the event, working with partners and business owners, organizing venue and locations, organizing site requirements, coordinating artists, coordinating the AR experiences with the development team, ensuring the schedule/roadmap is met, and post event report writing.
  • Planning and organizing art events. Coordination of event on website, social media, email mailing list, and with artists.
  • Website upkeep including updating portfolio, store, and events, with assistance from web developer.
  • Creating content for and posting on social media channels (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube)
  • Research for marketing and projects, and grant writing for projects
  • Planning and implement large scale collaborative art projects with local Calgarian artists. Projects could include window murals, interior murals, and large outdoor murals. Frequently projects are temporary or event-based; some projects will be semi-permanent. Expect projects to be diverse, with some repeating on an annual basis.
  • Planning and implementing AR activations through coordination with the development team, artists and animators on the project. AR activations and experience may be done remotely.

Qualifications

Candidates should have some experience in arts development, marketing, event planning, community development, project management or a similar field. Experience in graphic design, and business administration would also be an asset for this role.

We are seeking someone who’s detail-oriented with strong written and verbal communication skills, a positive and go-getter attitude, an organized nature, and great multitasking skills. This person will be comfortable working independently with a pro-active approach and will be able to work effectively under pressure. Being technically sound will be an asset as this role requires the set-up of AR activations, and uses tools like Adobe Creative Suite, various social media platforms, back-ends of websites like Squarespace, and design and editing tools. Interest in arts development in Calgary and arts-based processes an asset.

This is a contracted position for approximately 50 hours per month at a rate of $25/hr.

Remote work or in-person at MAUD Studio, flexible depending on preference.
