Assistant Stage Managers
StoryBook Theatre is currently seeking assistant stage managers to work with our Summer Student Intensive Program (SSIP) production of Pippin. The assistant stage manager’s role is to provide assistance to the stage manager during rehearsals as well as for the full run of the show. The Stage Manager will communicate production requirements and create a list of duties for the Assistant Stage Manager. Generally during the show, the assistant stage manager is stationed just offstage to facilitate communication between the stage manager and actors, as well as ensuring their safety. The ASM often helps with complex set changes, quick changes offstage, or preparing the stage for performance. These duties may change based on the needs of each individual stage manager.

This position is being made possible through a Canada Summer Jobs Grant and therefore we are seeking students aged 18 to 30 for this role. We are not limited by this, but stronger consideration will be made for those candidates that meet this age criteria for this grant.
Responsibilities
Assistant stage manager will be accountable to the stage manager and will work closely with cast and production teams.
Duties include:
- Providing assistance to the stage manager as requested
- Assist with the smooth management of the show
- Preparing the stage for performance
- Assist with set and costume changes as needed
- Other duties as required
Qualifications
The ideal candidates would possess many, if not all, of the qualifications listed below. StoryBook is a learning environment and is looking for a candidate willing to grow into the role with a base understanding of its demands and skills required.
- Interest in theatre arts
- Experience working in theatre is an asset but not required
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Organized
- Must work well in a team setting

Duration
This is a seasonal contract. Start date is May 14 and end date is September 3, 2023. Evening and weekend availability is required.
Compensation: Assistant stage managers are hired at an hourly rate of $16/hr.
