Auditioning for Theatre with Krista Willott

Course Description

Krista will be walking the participants through the basics of theatre auditions, from how to select your audition pieces to how to manage nerves in the audition room!

Thursday will be a detailed study of how to prepare for an audition:

  • How to choose a monologue or song
  • How to break down your audition piece to present your very best in the room
  • What to focus on when you only get a 16 bar cut of music
  • General audition etiquette

Friday will be a mock audition day:

  • Presenting and analysis of presentations
  • Practicing re-directs
  • How to deal with the anxiety of auditions
  • Tips and tricks to use during your audition

This workshop is intended for ages 15+.

*Participants are asked to bring a prepared piece (1 – 2 minute monologue or song) to be presented on Friday.

Instructor Bio

Krista Willott has been doing musical theatre since 1994! She has been on professional stages in Toronto, amateur stages in Alberta and her favorite, community stages in Calgary. Krista taught Drama, technical theatre, musical theatre, dance and choral music for Catholic school district for 8 years and designed and directed 5 musicals while there. When she is not teaching students she is teaching her 3 boys at home! Krista has a passion and love for musical theatre and can’t wait to share it!

These workshops are presented at this low cost in the spirit of community theatre. Proceeds of this workshop will be split with Misfit Theatre YYC.
