Calgary Boys’ Choir
Whether you are a long-time supporter or family who recently joined the choir, you understand the incredible experience this organization has provided to its boys for over 50 years.
Today, even with our small but strong group of boys, Kathryn Berko continues the tradition of exposing them to music and experiences that support their growth and development, all while having fun and building community.
Reflecting on a joyful and memorable 50th anniversary celebration this time last year, we’ve continued to promote the CBC and provide formative and enriching experiences. We came together last August with a booth at the Marda Gras festival, we performed with the Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra and Chorus’ season-opening performance of Carmina Burana, hired two fantastic male directors for the Intermediate and Young Singers, took the boys on two overnight adventure camps, sent some of the boys to Edmonton to participate in Choir Alberta’s Provincial Honour Choir, and are now planning a July 2026 Tour to England. We also have a small but mighty group of parents and volunteers helping out on the Board, at events and fundraisers, led by our General Manager Elizabeth Garrett who also secures us grants and keeps our members and partners informed and updated.
Despite all this hard work and the quality experience our boys enjoy, it is unclear how much longer the Calgary Boys’ Choir can continue operating without a significant increase in membership. We currently have 19 wonderful boys, but this is our lowest membership on record and membership has been declining annually since 2020. Our operations are largely dependent on membership — not just from registration fees, but each boy who registers also brings with them a community of supporters and volunteers to share the work to keep our organization alive and thriving.

Here are specific ways you can help:
- Spread the word to individuals, groups or organizations that have boys ages five (5) and up
- Sponsor or promote us in some way through your business or organization.
- Join us by volunteering your time:
- We are in great need of a new treasurer on our volunteer board for next season to work with our board co-chairs, hired bookkeeper and manager.
- We need other new board members to help spread the workload and achieve our goals in marketing, volunteer coordinating, fundraising, or anything else you have time for.
- We need volunteers to lend their time to help us at bingo or casino shifts, concerts, or taking on a specific marketing or fundraising tasks.
- Donate to the organization and/or our July 2026 England Tour on our website.
- Follow us on Instagram and Facebook and add your comments and reactions to help us get noticed.
- Finally, attend our concert on May 3, 2025 at 3pm at St. Stephen’s church (see link below)
