Board of Directors

Deadline: December 6, 2024

Submission deadline has been extended to December 6, 2024, at noon MT!

The Sled Island Music & Arts Festival is seeking volunteers to serve on our Board of Directors and contribute to the vitality of our organization and the broader community. We’re looking for individuals who represent the diversity of our audiences and the Calgary community. We recognize the systemic lack of representation of equity-deserving communities in the current non-profit art space and welcome individuals from all ethnic backgrounds, gender identities, sexualities, abilities, and/or from a broad range of age groups.

We are actively looking to fill the Treasurer role on our executive, and are interested in those with experience in human resources, information technology, fundraising and donor stewardship. We also welcome diverse experiences outside of those areas.

A passion for music and music festivals, Sled Island’s unique programming, making Calgary awesome and a commitment to the role of governance is essential. Previous board experience is an asset but not required.

Board members serve for a term of two years, which may be renewed. A time commitment of approximately 10 hours per month is expected throughout the year.

WHY VOLUNTEER?

  • Be part of a music festival that’s on the forefront of venue-based festivals
  • Work with an energetic board that shares a passion for supporting local arts and culture
  • Shape the diverse music and arts landscape of Calgary

  • Attending Sled Island events and represent the Board of Directors in the community
  • Supporting and participating in sponsorship and fundraising efforts
  • Supporting Sled Island’s ongoing work in anti-racism and inclusion
  • Clearly communicating the role of the festival and ensuring that its value and contributions are understood and appreciated by all stakeholders

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

  • Passion and vision for the growth and sustainability of the festival in Calgary as well as the impact it has on its community
  • An appreciation of the festival’s eclectic programming and independent spirit
  • An open mind, with the ability to consider multiple and sometimes conflicting points of view in finding solutions
  • An awareness of issues that impact the arts and non-profit organizations in the community
  • The ability to network, collaborate and engage with a variety of stakeholders
