Young Singers Director

Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the artistic director, the young singers director’s primary duties will be to:
- Lead weekly rehearsals from September to May for boys Kindergarten to Grade 2, focusing on choral skills and musicianship.
- Participate in choral workshops/day camps (four to five in approximately monthly intervals over the course of the season).
- Prepare and co-conduct boys in two large and two community-based concerts per season.
Additional Duties
- Assist/conduct rehearsals and performances with the other Calgary Boys’ Choir ensembles, as required.
- Attend all workshops, day camps, and festivals as outlined in the season calendar.
- Participate in fundraising events and other administrative duties as required.
- Communicate regularly and openly with the artistic and administrative staff, keeping abreast of all information as outlined in choir memos.
- Attend all artistic meetings and occasional board meetings.
Other duties may be requested by the artistic director and will be discussed as they arise.
Qualifications
- Undergraduate degree in music education or performance.
- Early childhood music education experience/pedagogy an asset.
- Conducting experience of two to five years, with at least one year conducting children.
- Experience teaching children and youth.
- An understanding of vocal pedagogy.
- Excellent theory and musicianship skills.
- Proficient piano skills (for rehearsing and basic accompaniment).
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills.
- Positive and enthusiastic attitude.
Compensation: $50 to $60/hour, commensurate with experience.
