Have you ever wondered what it takes to get into the art of clown? Well now is the chance to discover the serious—but not so serious—art of clown through three unique workshops offered by the Calgary Clown Festival. These workshops will explore the fundamental dynamics of clowning, how to laugh at yourself, physical movement, improvisation, and much more!

Five-Day Intensive Workshop with Jon Davison

This five-day intensive workshop explores the fundamental dynamics of clowning, how to convert our habitual fear of ridicule into the pleasure of laughing at ourselves, and in turn, using it to make other laugh and experience the freedom of the clown. Jon Davison is one of the most sought-after clown teachers worldwide with over 35 years experience as a clown performer, teacher, director, writer, and researcher. Join Jon as he delves into the simple exercises rooted in laughter response in order to access clowning in the most direct manner possible!

Registration: $650 plus fees

The Art of Physical Comedy Workshop for Teens and Adults with Cheryl Hutton

This workshop for teens and adults will expand your physical vocabulary and develop tools for playing comedy using the techniques of physical impulses, improvisation, slapstick, to find “happy accidents” in solo and group exercises. Cheryl is a Calgary based theatre performer, voice-over recording artist, an ensemble member of Dirty Laundry and instructor of Physical Theatre/Comedy workshops in Calgary! Cheryl is the co-founder of the physical comedy theatre company Trepan Theatre. Join Cheryl as she dives into the magical possibilities of physical theatre!
