About the play
Characters:
- Interviewee: A 24-year-old aspiring professional. Nervous. Speaks before they think. Any gender. Must be comfortable with singing.
- Interviewer: An older recruiting officer. Polite. Tired. Due for retirement. Any gender.
Synopsis
A young aspiring professional shows up late to an interview (strike one). They haven’t prepared (strike two). And they would rather discuss their struggling music career than their skills and qualifications (strike three). The interview goes down exactly as you would expect. Until it doesn’t.
For white collars and capitalists, for dreamers and failures, and for everyone who has suffered at the hands of a job interview.
About Levity
Levity Theatre Co. is an Ottawa-based theatre company created by emerging artists Eve Beauchamp and Caity Smyck. Founded in 2020, we aim to bring innovative non-men and queer-led work to both regional and national theatre spaces. Our work centres around exploring the complex and messy experiences of humans with levity and humour, in surreal environments for audiences to play in.
We are committed to creating an inclusive and safe space for artists of all backgrounds and identities.
Audition information: Audition slots will be 15 minutes. You will be able to book your slot after we have screened your application form.
Please prepare:
- A contemporary monologue (1 to 2 minutes)
- A song of your choice (approximately 1 minute) – Required only if auditioning for INTERVIEWEE.
You may audition for either or both roles. Don’t take the character description too literally — you are 20 and feel like you would be amazing at playing an older recruitment officer? Go for it! You aren’t an opera singer — like our director — but love to sing in the shower? We would love to hear you perform your favourite song at auditions!
No accompanist will be provided; please prepare your song to be sung a capella. Wear comfortable clothing suitable for movement.
Remuneration: Please note that since this is a Fringe production, everyone on our team works on a profit-share basis and we do not anticipate that there will be an additional budget to pay performers and the production team wages.
Questions: Any questions about the production or the casting process can be directed to Jelka Denter (producer) at denterjelka@gmail.com.
