The Calgary Philharmonic celebrated 65 years as a pillar of Calgary’s vibrant arts community in 2020 and has grown to be one of Canada’s most celebrated live music ensembles. Led by Music Director Rune Bergmann, the Calgary Phil presents classical standards, pop favourites, bold collaborations, and cutting-edge new works, and attracts world-renowned guest artists and dynamic conductors.

In a typical season, the orchestra welcomes over 100,000 visitors to the concert hall and reaches audiences around the world through its free and accessible digital programming and live-stream initiative — an immersive, online concert experience that launched in 2017.

The Role

The Calgary Philharmonic Orchestra is looking for an organized, professional front of house (FOH) co-ordinator to join its marketing and sales team. They will be a key member of the Calgary Phil administrative team and must demonstrate the core values of the Calgary Phil with particular emphasis on professionalism, sound judgment, and ethics.

The FOH co-ordinator oversees general FOH operations and ensures a smooth patron experience before, during, and after all Calgary Phil concerts.

The FOH co-ordinator reports to the associate director of sales and works collaboratively with the full administrative team and Orchestra musicians. This is a part-time position paid hourly.

Responsibilities

Front of House Co-ordination:

  • Oversee the lobby set up/tear down prior to and during performances.
  • On-site management of volunteers.
  • Liaise with Arts Commons front of house team and Calgary Phil production teams.
  • Create and circulate FOH notes ahead of Calgary Phil concerts, working actively with Calgary Phil and Arts Commons staff to ensure all details are considered and effectively communicated.
  • Provide superior customer service to Calgary Phil audience.
  • Assist with any additional Front of House needs.

Merchandise:

  • Plan and arrange the procurement of artist recordings featured in Calgary Phil concerts.
  • Assist with merchandise procurement, pricing, and inventory control.
  • Manage merchandise kiosk at concerts, including handling of financial transactions and reconciliation of sales.

Desired Qualifications

  • Previous experience in FOH and/or retail sales an asset.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Experience in a not-for-profit or performing arts organization is an asset.
  • Knowledge of classical music and/or a sincere interest in arts and culture.
  • Demonstrated ability to work both independently and in a team.

Additional Details

  • This position currently requires the ability to work from home and/or the office. Training, support, and supervision may occur virtually.
  • This is a part-time position paid hourly ($20/hour, estimated 20 to 30 hours per week).
  • Candidates must be available to work evening/weekend concerts and events throughout the season.
