Call for Arts Resident
EMMEDIA Gallery & Production Society
Residency period: September 15, 2024 to January 15, 2025 (4 months)
Application deadline: September 7, 2024
We are looking for an arts resident!
EMMEDIA is a non-profit artist-run centre that serves our community by offering affordable access to media art production tools, services, technical and educational support, and to an array of public exhibition programs. We are currently looking for one resident to receive tailored training and learn skills in projection mapping, and create an artistic project. The resident will collaborate with our artistic director and instructors to develop a training plan based on their interests.
Wages: The resident will be employed part-time at 20 hours per week, receiving a $20/hr + CPP + EI + additional pay in lieu of vacation.
The Details
The chosen resident will learn projection mapping. They will be given tours of the space and trained on all relevant equipment, including proper use of all projectors. Beyond that, we would like to be open to the creative interests of the resident and intend to tailor a monthly training plan with them in collaboration with the artistic director. We can provide mentorships in Qlab, the preferred projection mapping software for performers and theatre; Mad Mapper, the projection mapping software most used by Video Jammers; and Touch Designer, for those who want to focus more on content creation (as opposed to performance), and for those who want to integrate mapping with VR technology.
The resident will create a tailored monthly learning plan with the artistic director.
Each month will include:
- 2 half days of technical training
- 3 weeks of self-directed creation with open access to EMMEDIA’s equipment and space
- end the month with a feedback session on your creative work with EMMEDIA’s artistic director
To apply you must:
- Be self-motivated
- Be tech-savvy and open to creative problem solving
- Have effective and adaptive planning and time management skills
- Able to work collaboratively and independently
- Be between 15 and 30 years of age at the start of the internship
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada (either a citizen, permanent resident or person with refugee status – work permits are not eligible)
- Self-identify as underemployed (i.e. employed below their level of education, holding part-time employment, or in emerging fields with few jobs)
- Have completed post-secondary studies (exception: interns located in Nunavut, Yukon or NWT are not required to meet this criterion)
- Have no immediate family relationship with the employer
