Call for Board Secretary
W.P. Puppet Theatre Society (WPTS) is seeking a secretary to join our board!
About Us
Our mandate is to use the power of puppetry to impact positive social change. Believing that puppets have a special role as representatives and that art has a responsibility and opportunity to mirror and shape reality, our goals are to:
- Provide tools and builds skillsets to Express voice.
- Empower and develop healthy and engaged individuals.
- Foster Empathy and inspiration by connecting diverse audiences.
- The secretary position is integral to us meeting these goals. Be part of something important and meaningful. Build community with other like-minded individuals.
Our Ideal Candidate has:
- English speaking and writing proficiency. Organization skills.
- Aptitude in email and text communications, Google Drive and Word.
- A broad network of business/community connections.
- A genuine interest in doing impactful work in the arts community in Calgary.
- Alberta resident, preferably within the Calgary area.
What we offer:

- Board level experience in a charitable not-for-profit organization.
- Training and onboarding with outgoing secretary.
Term and Tasks:
- Board members are asked to serve a 3-year term. They may be nominated anytime through the year, with a majority Board vote.
- They are asked to attend some WPTS or other events as WPTS representatives, including casino fundraiser.
- Spend about 4 hours per month preparing for meetings.
- Meet with the board once a month on Zoom or in person.
- Record accurate meeting minutes. Upload/email within a week after meeting date.
- Send out meeting agendas, collate RSVP’s, ensure we have quorum.
- Keep an up-to-date listing of all board members.
- Other administrative tasks as needed by Board operations.
