Call for Indigenous Artist

The Children’s Cottage Society proudly provides services to families in Moh’kins’tis, also known as Calgary. We acknowledge Treaty 7 territory and the traditional lands of the Blackfoot Confederacy, which includes the Kainai, Siksika, and Piikani First Nations. We acknowledge the traditional lands of the Tsuut’ina First Nation, and the Stoney Nakoda, including the Chiniki, Bearspaw, and Wesley First Nations.

We would also like to recognize the Métis people, and the Inuit people who have made their home here in Moh’kins’tsis.

Brenda’s House is an emergency shelter for families experiencing homelessness, operated by the Children’s Cottage Society. Given that we provide shelter for many Indigenous families we are seeking an Indigenous artist to paint a land acknowledgement for the entrance of the shelter.

The wall where the land acknowledgement will be displayed is approximately 6.5 feet wide by 10 feet in height, and faces the front door of the main entrance. While we expect that a large canvas may be the simplest medium for this piece we are open to creative suggestions put forward by the artist selected to complete the work.
