About Albert Printmakers

A/P cultivates an inclusive and collaborative environment to learn about printmaking, to create printed works, and to pursue exciting artistic opportunities.

We demonstrate this through our publicly accessible Main Gallery programming, through our studio facilities and educational programming, and by regularly coordinating projects and events that foster artistic excellence and community engagement in printmaking and the arts.

Our Gallery and Studio are located in Mohkinsstsis/Calgary, on the traditional territories of the people of the Treaty 7 region in Southern Alberta. A/P has an open membership, is governed by a board of directors, and is operated by a team of three regular staff members, who reach out to volunteers in accomplishing A/P’s goals. The nature of our work is inclusive, collaborative and professional.

A/P is an organization that embraces and respects diversity, where every employee, volunteer or contractor is entitled to a working environment which promotes dignity and respect to all. No form of discriminatory behaviour, intimidation, bullying or harassment is tolerated, and all employees and volunteers are encouraged to develop their full potential and talents.

About the Board of Directors

A/P’s board of directors are elected during the annual general meeting through a nomination process as set out by the nominating committee (see below).

Each director must be an A/P member in good standing and their term on the board of directors shall be for a minimum of two (2) years. Members of the board of directors are expected to attend monthly board meetings and participate on committees to help direct the function of and contribute to strategic planning for the organization.

Nomination Process

A/P invites expressions of interest to be emailed to director@albertaprintmakers.com.

A/P encourages and welcomes applications from members of equity-deserving groups including members of Indigenous, Black, and racialized communities; persons identifying as LGBTQIA2S+; and persons with disabilities.

The nominating committee, which is A/P’s current executive committee, will review each expression of interest on an ongoing basis until June 1, 2023 considering the board recruitment criteria that is listed below. Individuals who show alignment with these general criteria and priorities for board membership will be invited to meet with nominating committee to discuss the organization and their interest further.

Each member of the Alberta Printmakers board of directors should:

  • Be available to attend most meetings at Alberta Printmakers in Mohkinsstsis/Calgary.
  • Have an interest in printmaking and/or the arts.
  • Demonstrate a commitment to values of diversity, equity, inclusion, and accessibility and the cultivation of these practices and values in all aspects of A/P operations.
  • Be open to opportunities of growth within the organizations such as work as a committee chair or on the

Executive Committee

  • Be willing and able to work collaboratively.
  • Be dependable and respectful.
  • Have an awareness of board structures and/or non-profit organizational structures.

Current Priority Areas for Board Membership

A/P is seeking to recruit individuals for the following:

Gallery Chair: Core responsibilities include facilitating and coordinating a call for submissions for the main exhibition space, facilitating exhibition organization including some preparator duties, and reporting on committee activities at Board meetings and AGM.

We are particularly interested in applicants who have knowledge of exhibition organization, installation, and jurying processes.

Fundraising: We are seeking members for the board who have demonstrated experience with fundraising. Experience with Charitable Status and non-profit governance would be an asset.

*Secretary Core Responsibilities: create meeting agendas and keep minutes of meetings.

*Vice Chair, Core Responsibilities: Take a leadership role in the strategic planning process; lead meetings when the president is absent; prepare a report for the AGM. We are particularly interested in applicants who have experience with personnel management, administration, recruitment, and policy development.

*Note: The secretary and vice chair each sit on the executive committee. This committee is responsible for carrying out emergency and unusual business between board meetings including oversight of staff hiring and contracts, and other high-level leadership tasks.
