The Honest Collective is committed to offering a safe and diverse space to practice, play and create art together. We are committed to building authentic and lasting solidarity with our LGBTQ2S+, Black, Indigenous and People of Colour (BIPOC) communities, while telling their stories authentically by the right people.

RENT is set in a diverse and culturally rich neighbourhood of New York City’s East Village, which has a history of being a mosaic of different ethnicities, cultures and identities. While not all of of the roles are explicitly written as racialized characters, we would love to accurately represent the racial and ethnic diversity of this setting, to tell the experiences of BIPOC who have historically inhabited, and contributed to these communities.

This show addresses issues such as poverty, queer rights, addiction, and HIV/AIDS, all of which disproportionately affect communities of colour. The Honest Collective is committed to educating, challenging, and provoking thought in the stories we tell, and are committed to having the right voices at the table to tell them.

If you are interested in being a part of this story, please reach out. We are committed to learning and growing with our Diversity and Inclusion and are open to any feedback you may want to provide.
