Call for Trans / Non-Binary Artists
Deadline: April 12, 2024
Location: Latitude 53 (Edmonton, AB)
I’ve been deeply concerned about anti-trans hate in Alberta (and beyond) and believe one of the ways to counter this is by increasing the visibility of, and support, for trans art.
I launched the VS. Arts Grant in 2019 to offer financial support to marginalized artists in various fields. This year, the grant will be dedicated to supporting one trans/non-binary artist selected to create an installation in Latitude 53’s large storefront windows (in Edmonton), in the form of an artist fee ($1,000) and materials stipend (up to $1,000). A travel stipend (up to $1,500) will be offered to artists outside Alberta.
Works will be exhibited for 6 weeks in June and July 2024, with one week allotted for installation and teardown the week prior and after the run of the exhibition. The Latitude 53 team will provide support and guidance with installation.
We are especially looking for art that is bold, visually disruptive and thought-provoking.
Applications can be submitted via this Google Form and must include:
- Bio
- CV detailing past artistic experience
- Project description: your creative vision for the window installation (250–500 words)
- Up to 5 examples of previous work
Applicants should identify as trans/non-binary and be living in Canada.
