We’re currently seeking a local artist whose practice resonates with themes of self-expression and social justice to join us in supporting 2SLGBTQ+ youth during our summer camp this August. As our Artist in Residence, you’ll have the chance to lead meaningful workshops, connect with youth in a supportive environment, and create new work inspired by the camp experience.

What is Camp fYrefly?

Camp fYrefly offers a fun, educational, social and personal leadership retreat for 2SLGBTQ+ youth ages 13-17 that takes place at YMCA Camp Chief Hector in Kananaskis, Alberta at the end of August. For more information about our Camp, feel free to take a took at our website here centreforsexuality.ca/programs-services/2slgbtq-programs/camp-fyrefly.

Every year at Camp we invite an Artist in Residence to work with our fYrefly team to deliver a range of art-based content for Camp fYrefly participants. The Artist in Residence will have demonstrated a commitment to innovation, exploration, community outreach and the public understanding of 2SLGBTQ+ experiences and identities.

Working with the Camp Team, the Artist in Residence will coordinate the development and execution of arts-based programming for Camp fYrefly.

Other requirements include:

  • Attending planning meetings and training, as well as joining on location for the full duration of Camp (five days/four nights; first day without campers) and debrief.
  • Documenting and reporting incidents (training provided).
  • Mental Health Team referrals.

As recognition of their commitment, the Artist in Residence can receive an honorarium of up to $1500.

You can find the information to submit an application for the Artist in Residence or a workshop this year on the website under the Artist in Residence Tab and Workshop Facilitator tab respectively.

Application will be reviewed as they are received.
