Additional Information

Cantata is a dramatization and fictionalization of Clem Martini’s experience as a caregiver for a brother with schizophrenia and a mother developing dementia. The family undergoes much stress as the delicate balance of caregiving unravels.

We include a marimba, musically developing with the story. Professional musician and professor Rod Squance is composing and performing these pieces.

This audition is for an invited staged reading in August, however, we do plan to present the full production later in 2021 when pandemic circumstances allow! The casting of this reading is intended to carry over to the full production.

  • Irene Berenger – Mother of Martin and Dennis, developing dementia, living with Dennis.
  • Martin Berenger – University professor and caregiver to Irene and Dennis.
  • Dennis Berenger – Artist living with schizophrenia.
  • Psychiatrist/Counsellor/Bank Manager/Nurse, Growling Patient – One actor playing many different roles.
