Career & WIL Services Coordinator

Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) is looking for an energetic and innovative career and work integrated learning (WIL) services coordinator to provide support to students, program development and internal partners.

This is temporary full-time position with a one-year term. Hours of work are 35 hours per week.

The Alberta University of the Arts offers its 1,100 students studio-based programming that leads to a Bachelor of Fine Arts in one of nine disciplines, a Bachelor of Design in one of two, and an MFA in craft media. It has deep roots in Calgary’s creative community and will soon be celebrating its centennial.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the director, learning and instructional services, the career and WIL services coordinator provides assistance in the planning of employment-based training opportunities student placements and student career planning. The coordinator engages prospective employers for student placements, monitors employment trends, and reports on external trends and progress reports.

Key Responsibilities

Coordinate Career Services

  • Assist students with career planning, engaging parents, and communities as applicable.
  • Design and implement career preparation activities, resources, and career events for students involving the job search (resume writing, interviewing, professional dress).
  • Coordinate student work and experience placements.
  • In partnership with School of Continuing Education and Professional Development (SCEPD), develop, coordinate, and facilitate career services bootcamps.
  • Maintain and support the AUArts Connect mentorship program.

Support Program Development

  • Assist with the development of career services and WIL policies and guidelines.
  • Assist in the implementation of organizational structures to support WIL practices.
  • Assist with the implementation of career and WIL supports.
  • Support program development by identifying market trends/opportunities for employment-based training and placements, where applicable.

Support Partnerships

  • Liaise, communicate, and build relationships with workplace partners.
  • Develop and cultivate relationships with potential employers through cold calling, mailing, networking, and site visits.
  • Develop and maintain file and database structures to track career pathways and potential industry partnerships.
  • Liaise with student association career supports including career fair.
  • Liaise with internal partners regarding career activities and supports.

Monitor and Report Metrics

  • Monitor research and market analyses to understand current and emerging trends in the employment market.
  • Document and inform partners on market trends.
  • Track and report internal metrics.
  • Document program progress, and achievements in annual and regular reports.


The successful candidate will have:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant field (business, human resources, education).
  • Minimum of two (2) years experience in career or employment counselling.
  • Demonstrated experience providing career advice, report writing, facilitating groups and monitoring labour trends.
  • Expertise in market analysis, public speaking, external engagement considered assets.
  • Experience advising students is considered an asset.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to interact with individuals from a variety of backgrounds and cultures.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite/365; intermediate Excel.

As a member of the AUPE bargaining unit (Local 071/006), this full-time temporary position falls under a classification 5 (five).

The starting annual salary is $51,260 to $56,833 dependent upon skills, education and experience.
