The Youth Singers of Calgary’s KIDS & MUSIC Program is seeking a dynamic, energetic, talented and empathetic musician to accompany our Grade 2 program. This position has the potential to expand into a teaching role as well, for the right candidate. The successful candidate will work well as part of a dynamic and energetic team, understand that working with children means every lesson is a new adventure, and have as much fun as possible in every lesson.

Qualifications:

  • Grade 10 RCM piano
  • Excellent sight reader
  • Strong improvisation skills
  • Experience and aptitude for working with young children
  • Comfortable singing and can model singing well – including harmonies

Responsibilities:

  • Accompany and support all rehearsals, workshops and concerts for the Grade 2 KIDS & MUSIC class, and accompany a Grade 3/4 rehearsal weekly
  • Support all four Kids & Music Groups (Pre-Kindergarten, Kindergarten, Grade 1 and Grade 2) in our Christmas and Year-End recitals
  • Have a general knowledge of the vocal as well as the piano music assigned, so they may support the children by singing as directed
  • Be pleasant, kind, gentle, and caring around children
  • Be prepared to substitute teach a class should the director be ill or absent

Contract Commitment:

  • Weekly class times: Thursdays 5 – 7pm and Saturdays 11:30am – 12:30pm
  • Classes run until late April 2024
  • Choreo Workshops: Saturday afternoon workshops, February 8, March 8, April 12, 2024
  • Year End Presentation: April 26, 1 – 4:30pm

All rehearsals take place at the ATCO Performing Arts Centre (1371 Hastings Cres. SE)
