Communications Specialist
Calgary Downtown Association is Calgary’s largest business improvement area (BIA), representing 2,500 businesses, and is committed to fostering dynamic spaces, places and integrated communities in our downtown.
We are looking for a creative, collaborative and strategic communications specialist to join our marketing team for a six-month contract.
As a direct report to the director of strategic communications and marketing, you will support the strategic objectives of the organization through website development, management of social media channels, research and producing a bi-weekly newsletter.
The ideal candidate will have a strong grip on how to approach social media platforms, in particular Twitter, LinkedIn, Facebook and Instagram. You possess great judgement, are an excellent copywriter and creative content creator who loves vibrant urban environments. You are collaborative and ready to work hard to highlight the best in our stakeholders and our downtown.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a must, as is in-depth knowledge of marketing trends.

Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in the execution of the organization’s marketing and communications objectives.
- Support the management and growth of the CDA brand and identity.
- Solicit content ideas from team members and compile for print and on-line mediums.
- Monitor social media for opportunities to highlight and support downtown stakeholders.
- Manage the CDA’s social media and online presence, specifically Twitter, Instagram, LinkedIn and Facebook.
- Take a thoughtful approach to evaluating social media performance and continuously looking for ways to improve it while staying true to our organizational values.
- Contribute to the development of promotional events for the CDA, our members, stakeholders, City of Calgary and others.
- Ensure all promotional and marketing materials meet the company’s brand identity.
- Identify and resolve any issues with promotional content in a timely and professional manner.
- Coordinate meetings, press conferences, and presentations.
Qualifications & Attributes
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in marketing, communications, English, public relations, journalism or commensurate experience.
- Minimum two to three years of experience working in a marketing or communications position.
- Possess a solid understanding of effective marketing techniques.
- Motivated to contribute to a collaborative team environment.
- Excellent writing and editing skills.
- Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
- Strong time-management and organizational skills.
- Flexible and responsive to change.
