Field Work is seeking a community-minded artist or community organizer to lead community engagement activities for Parts & Labour, a new documentary play.
About The Show
Parts & Labour is a documentary play centered around the diverse experiences of temporary foreign worker’s in meat packing plants in Alberta.
Through verbatim text Parts & Labour documents the experiences of 40+ real people including workers, community organizers, community residents, researchers, politicians, and more. Each performance also features a live, on-stage interview with a special guest who’s lived experience relates to the stories shared in the play.
Parts & Labor has been in development in various iterations since 2014, including an online version centered around the COVID-19 outbreaks at meat packing plants.

The Position
Working in close collaboration with the producer and creative team, the community engagement coordinator will have two primary focuses; audience engagement & special guest coordinating.
Audience Engagement Duties Include:
- Connect with individuals, organizations, and communities who relate to these stories.
- Identify and remove barriers to attending, including physical, cultural, financial, and transportation barriers.
- Act as the key contact person for general audience communications and assistance.
Special Guest Coordinating Duties Include:
- Identifying and inviting potential guests.
- Coordinating and supporting their participation on performance days.
- Coordinating guest honorariums.
Who We’re Looking for
Our ideal candidate is sincere, personable, caring and kind, someone with a genuine enthusiasm for community building through art. We’re looking for a great communicator who’s comfortable reaching out to individuals and organizations and happy to represent Parts & Labour in the community.
Experience in community organizing, community engagement, arts administration, working with newcomer communities and/or migrant workers is a huge asset.
Coordinator Fee & Schedule
Total Coordinator Fee: $5,000, based on expected 200 hours at $25/hour
Schedule:
- Start date, June 6, 2022
- Contract end date, July 9, 2022
Flexible weekly schedule based on personal availability and community needs, some evenings and weekend time is to be expected.
Must be available in the evening for performance dates of June 29 – July 1, July 5 – 9, 2022.
Working location is likewise flexible with a mix of in-person collaboration with the creative & production team, work from home, and in-community engagement.
Coordinator must be based in Calgary during contract dates.
