Counsellor

The Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) is looking for an open-minded and compassionate Counsellor to join the Student Services team.
This is a part-time, limited term appointment until May 31, 2022. Hours of work are 21 hours per week.

The Opportunity
Reporting to the Dean of Students, the Counsellor provides individual counselling to Alberta University of the Arts undergraduate and graduate students to support their personal, career, and academic goals. The Counsellor must work effectively and build relationships with a diverse community of students, faculty, staff, and external stakeholders.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conducts intake/screening appointments and determines support plans for students using multiple sources of information (screening interview, referral information, standardized questionnaire, etc.)
- Maintains knowledge and prudent use of on- and off-campus resources.
- Provides individual counselling for undergraduate and graduate students within a brief therapy model for issues including personal, interpersonal, social, vocational, and educational concerns.
- Responds to mental health emergencies and other crises, as appropriate, should they arise.
- Consults with other members of the AUArts community (faculty, staff, students) in support of student mental health.
- Acts in accordance with professional codes of ethics.
The successful candidate will have:
- Minimum graduate degree in counselling/clinical psychology or social work.
- Professional designation as a Registered Psychologist, Licensed Counsellor, or Registered Social Worker in Alberta.
- 3-5 years related counselling experience preferred.
- Experience counselling in a post-secondary setting, working with international students, Indigenous people, and/or LGBTQ2S+ communities is considered an asset,
- Demonstrated ability to work with diverse groups of people using an intersectional lens.
- Highly developed oral and written (records management) skills.
- Ability to function independently and as part of an integrated member of the Student Services team.
