What you’ll be doing

Fundraising at Momentum is highly relational and creative. You’ll be working with the five-person (yourself included!) resource development team under a distributed leadership model with high autonomy and decision-making power. As a self-directed group, we hold accountability for planning, processes, and outcomes.

We strive to build authentic relationships with donors, to present Momentum’s work in a way that honours the participants who take our programs, and to educate others about the root causes and systems that create poverty in the first place.

Your Role

You’ll be the creative dynamo, event maestro, and stupendous storyteller of the resource development team! You will be the bridge between program participants and donors by creating compelling stories and coordinating community events throughout the year.

Key Responsibility Areas:

  • Primary architect and event designer for Momentum’s community events. The event portfolio includes Momentum’s Annual Breakfast Fundraiser, Momentum’s AGM & Celebration, Momentum’s Open house, and other smaller gatherings.
  • Engage with external stakeholders to coordinate events, including videographers, AV support, venues and others.
  • Create compelling stories for a range of audiences that feature program participants in videos, for print, and public speaking at events.
  • Prepare participants to share their stories while upholding ethical storytelling practices.
  • Support and lead projects that build Momentum’s storytelling capacity.
  • Create meaningful and compelling donor communications that stand out above the clutter.
  • Support the Participant Ambassador Program (includes approximately 4-8hrs/month evening work to accommodate participant availability).
Who we’re Looking for

You:

  • Love events. You love planning. You love planning and producing impactful events.
  • Craft engaging stories and communicate compelling content. You’ve got a track record of writing and communicating memorable stories. They’ll be persuasive, they’ll stand out from the clutter, and they’ll stay true to Momentum’s voice.
  • Recognize the power of philanthropy to change the world. You are at ease with high net worth people passionate about making a difference, and you enjoy delivering experiences that ignite their enthusiasm.
  • Take hospitality seriously and create events that are inclusive for all. Our events engage multiple stakeholders and are open to the community.
  • Think outside of the box when it comes to event design, immersive experiences, and script-writing. You are eager to bring fresh ideas to the table!
  • Are a relationship-builder. To us this means: you are genuinely interested in collaboration, you enjoy connecting with people, and you bring joy and fun into your work.
  • Are passionate about creating an inclusive economy and ending poverty. Momentum’s mission resonates strongly with you, and you want to contribute to building community where everyone can contribute and thrive.
  • Have (some) experience with Canva or InDesign. Other experience with digital technology like video editing would be considered an asset.
  • Can effectively manage multiple projects at once. You coordinate your support team with clear, organized, and appropriate goals, priorities, and timelines.

Overall, the skills and attributes above are more important to us than your education or whether you’ve been in a fundraising role before. If this role speaks to you, we encourage you to apply!

How to Apply

To apply, we request two things:

  • Your resume
  • Instead of a cover letter, please choose one of the following prompts. We welcome playful responses! Use the opportunity to help us get to know you. 2 pages max, please.
  • Write a script of our future interview. Imagine where it would take place and how you would like it to go. What questions do we ask and how do you answer them? Have fun!
  • Show us something you’ve created and describe the process you used. What pitfalls or breakthroughs did you encounter along the way and what did you learn? Honesty wins.
  • Share a story about an event you produced that you are particularly proud of. What was the goal, how did it go, and did you grow?
