Call to Artists
The Crescent Heights Village Business Improvement Area is inviting local storytellers to join our second annual Crescent Moon Festival.
Performance slots are scheduled for up to three (3) 15-minute sets from 6:00 to 9:00pm on Saturday, February 12, 2022 in an indoor location within the BIA for a maximum of two (2) artists per act at a time.
You may propose one performance for the entire three hours with scheduled breaks; please indicate your preference in the application.
Performances may also be recorded and broadcasted through our digital platforms and local radio stations.
We’re Seeking
Artists, cultural practitioners, and storytellers, aged 18 and up are eligible to apply. Applicants may apply as individuals or collaboratives (maximum two people per act). Local artists are strongly encouraged to apply. Proposals may include but are not limited to the following:
- Traditional media, poetry.
- Performances visible and/or audible.
- Community-engaged cultural practices.
- Elements that specifically engage youth and/or reach non-English speaking communities.
Deadline to Apply: 11:59pm on Sunday, January 23, 2022 MT
Selected acts will be notified on or before Tuesday, February 1, 2022, by a member of the Crescent Heights Village BIA team.
Criteria & Judging
Submissions will be judged on completeness, artist experience, fit of the proposed piece to the theme of diversity, artist portfolio and overall impressions. The judges will include members of the Crescent Heights Village BIA team and community partners. The judging committee will select up to ten (10) acts to participate in the festival and Crescent Heights Village BIA reserves the right to engage artists outside this Call to Artists should the need arise.
Artist Fees & Other Details
Crescent Heights Village BIA will pay an artist fee of $650 for the three-hour live call in addition to a one-hour recording session, date TBD.
The total performance time will be 45-minutes and slots will be assigned in advance. We will promote the artist’s work on our website and social media channels as well as engage participating artists with media relations opportunities and other event publicity.
COVID-19 precautions, request that performers bring their own speaker/microphone. If you are unable to provide your own equipment, please advise us in this application. Participating artists must also meet Alberta’s Restriction Exemption Program guidelines to permit access to food/beverage serving entities.
