cSPACE King Edward is our flagship project, a multi-disciplinary arts and community hub in the community of South Calgary. The 47,000 sq.ft. multi-tenant facility is home to small and medium-sized non-profit organizations active in the arts and community sectors as tenants, each with their own staff, members, audiences and constituents. Artists also reside as tenants within the facility creating in disciplines such as photography, filmmaking, illustration/graphic design, painting, print-making, jewellery, mixed-media, fashion, costume-making, and sculpture. A co-working space provides short-term flexible space for members who use shared desks on a monthly and daily basis.

In addition to supporting these varied tenant uses, cSPACE King Edward includes highly adaptable event, performance, rehearsal, and meeting spaces. A Studio Theatre supports bookings for theatre, music, cinema and dance presentation or rehearsal and event uses. Public art in common areas and exhibition spaces throughout the facility and grounds provide spaces for artistic events to occur while supporting a vibrant place for the community to gather.

Position Summary

We are looking for an enthusiastic, well-organized and customer experience minded individual who will bring technical expertise to the Studio Theatre at cSPACE King Edward arts hub, and collaborate with our team to support our community building ambitions.

The studio technician role encompasses duties that include lighting, sound, stage rigging, video, video recording and live streaming, and general live event set-up, operation and administration within the dynamics of a multi-tenant, multi-use arts facility and event venue. Applicants may be required to work flexible hours including evenings and weekends.

The studio technician will provide oversight and expertise to back and front of house operations, venue rentals, and facility and theatre maintenance that ensures an exceptional experience for the facility’s artists, staff, community members and external clients as required to support various event uses.

Remuneration

This is a part-time, contract position with an intended start date of September 2021.

Compensation will be $22 to $28/hour inclusive of general holiday pay in accordance with the Employment Standards Code of Alberta and is commensurate with experience. Regular hours of work will typically occur during general facility hours of 8:00am to 8:00pm, Monday to Saturday but may be variable and subject to the demands of our building operations and/or event activity. 25 to 40 hours a week is anticipated to be typical of this role, with weekly schedule determined based on the needs of cSPACE events.
