Term: Day Camp Visual Arts Instructor (contract)
Location: Shawnessy YMCA & Remington YMCA
Start Date: June 12, 2023
End Date: August 25, 2023
Salary: $19.71/hr – $24.63/hr

What qualifications are we looking for?

We strive to ensure our employees are a fit based on their strengths, interests and future goals. The successful candidate will have the following:

  • Associated degree(s) or diploma(s) or degree(s)/diploma(s) in progress in related field: visual arts, teaching, working with children.
  • Previous experience teaching/working in the field.
  • Reliable transportation to travel between locations.
  • Meet and maintain any other specific licensing requirements.
  • Available evenings and weekends from June 12 to 25 for training.
  • Available full-time weekdays from July through August.
  • Current Standard First Aid and CPR C certification (CPR re-certified within the last 12 months).
  • Evidence of a clear Police Information Check including a Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Three professional references required.

What does this role look like at YMCA Calgary?

Duties and Responsibilities include:

  • Provide a fun, safe and healthy environment for children registered in YMCA Calgary Day Camps.
  • Provide proactive supervision and facilitate daily activities.
  • Work alongside camp counselors and staff when executing activities and lesson plans.
  • Traveling from branch to branch weekly.
  • Record and report daily/weekly summary of activities to supervisor.
  • Assist with general camp activities when not in specialty area like sign-in/sign-out.
  • Implement and execute daily lesson plans.
  • Demonstrate and role model positive behaviour when working with other staff, campers and members.
  • Follow YMCA Calgary policies and procedures.
  • Provide first aid when required.
  • Greet parents/guardians and campers on arrival and departure from camp. Providing extra assistance and daily updates as needed.
  • Attend 32 hours of mandatory staff training prior to the start of camp.
