Decolonizing Spaces Webinar

This three-hour online webinar provides confidence in understanding what decolonizing spaces in the arts can look like in practice so we can move together towards meaningful reconciliation.

Topics

Through cultivating care and curiosity, we will explore with creativity:

  • The understanding we have ourselves.
  • The practice of love, patience and discipline.
  • The difference between colonial and decolonial ways of being, thinking and feeling.
  • The necessary protocols for cultivating a safe space including inclusion, validation, well-being and freedom.
  • The different perspectives we have including tradition, relationship, action and innovation.
  • The impact of vicarious trauma and resiliency.
  • The nested system of individual, family, community and land.

Facilitation

Content framework shared by Elaine Alec from the Syilx and Secwepemc Nations in the Cultivating Safe Spaces (CSS) program (visit cultivatingsafespaces.com) to Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples.

Facilitated by Geraldine Ysselstein (trained CSS facilitator), a settler born in the land of her ancestors, which is the Netherlands, and for the last 10 years living in Mohkinstsis (Calgary).
