B.I.G. is a versatile etching ground developed by Andrew Baldwin of Trefeglwys Printmaking Studio (UK). B.I.G. has all qualities etchers know and love about hard / soft ground —minus the VOC’s, plus it’s super-easy to use! Students having prior experience with etching is recommended.
The instructor will cover:- Exploring products and practices for a green printmaking studio
- Using B.I.G. as a hard ground and soft ground
- Using Coffee Lift as a Sugar Lift alternative
- Using Aquatint technique
- Operating our studio presses
- Pulling prints made from the B.I.G. etchings

Instructor Bio
Kate has a formal education in art and art education from OCAD and NSCAD universities. She has taught children and adults in workshop, classroom, studio and on-line settings. Since 2015 she has established her own green printmaking practice through residencies at Zea Mays Printmaking. Kate is active with the Alberta Printmakers through teaching, committee work, studio projects and studio rental.
