Comedy Curator

Femme Wave is looking for a dedicated volunteer to curate comedy programming for the 2020 festival.
Role Description
Working heavily with the artistic and executive directors, as well as the board of directors, the comedy curator will program accessible, diverse, forward-thinking comedic performances for Femme Wave that is in line with the festival’s mission, vision, and values.
The role will focus on three objectives to deliver quality, diverse programming:
- Expand the reach of Femme Wave’s comedy submissions call.
- Select comedians to perform during the 2020 festival that represent as many genres and communities as possible.
- Maintain Femme Wave standards of diversity and inclusiveness.
Responsibilities:
- Develop and circulate the call for submissions.
- Working with artistic and executive directors, select comedians for 2020 festival and develop festival schedule.
- Ensure appropriate venues are selected and booked.
- Develop online content about comedy programming.
- Work within a designated budget laid out by the board and report on the finances of the programming.
- The comedy curator will also work with the tech coordinator to ensure comedian’s experiences at Femme Wave are excellent.
Requirements:
- Passion, knowledge and participation in the comedy community in Calgary.
- Research, time management and organizational skills.
- Excellent communication, both oral and written, and facilitation skills.
The comedy curator will work from March 2020 to January 2021, with the possibility of extension. Time commitments will vary and increase in June and July for the selection process, and October and November when the festival takes place. Hours are flexible and will vary. There is a small honorarium for this position.

Femme Wave is a feminist arts festival. The festival takes place annually in November across multiple inner-city venues and has enjoyed considerable growth since its inception. Founded in 2015, it is a collective-run organization with board and committee members of diverse and varying backgrounds.
