Femme Wave is looking for a dedicated volunteer to assist with the coordination of all festival tech needs during Femme Wave Festival, from November 5 to 8, 2020.

This position will work closely in collaboration with an experienced technical director, who will provide training.

Role Description

Working with the executive director and technical director, the tech coordinator will liaise with all festival curators, volunteer coordinator and specific technical vendors to ensure the needs of all performing artists are met within festival capabilities, including possible billeting, transportation, and technical riders.


  • Collaborate with festival curators regarding all festival events and performances, including but not limited to event schedules, venues, set times, artist riders, backline, and tech requirements.
  • Build out festival technical schedule with above details, and provide necessary details in festival production schedule.
  • Coordinate load-in, sound-check and load-out times with sound techs and venue managers at various festival venues.
  • Coordinate all festival backline rental requirements with Long & McQuade representative.
  • Source other technical requirements as needed.
  • Coordinate van rentals with Uhaul for gear transportation during festival.
  • Collaborate with volunteer coordinator to arrange for roadie and driver volunteers.
  • Coordinate roadie and driver volunteers for pickup, delivery and return of all backline and gear from Long & McQuade to festival venues.


  • Super organized, thorough, detail-oriented, and keen to solve problems.
  • Excellent communication, both oral and written.
  • Some experience working with festivals, events or show and concert production.
  • Experience and comfort with file sharing, expense tracking, and complex scheduling.
  • Experience supporting, supervising, and collaborating with humans (eg. customer service, volunteer supervision or education and facilitation).
  • Driver’s license required, access to a vehicle not required but recommended.

The tech coordinator role is active from approximately August 15 to December 15 2020. Hours are flexible and will vary, with the majority of work being done remotely. Time commitments will vary and increase approaching the festival in October and November but will average five to 10 hours per week. Coordinators are expected to adjust their schedules to be available the week of the festival.

A small honorarium will be paid to the tech coordinator upon successful completion of their duties. Possibility of extension of role into 2021, or promotion to the technical director role if interested.

Femme Wave is a feminist arts festival. The festival takes place annually in November across multiple inner-city venues and has enjoyed considerable growth since its inception. Founded in 2015, it is a collective-run organization with board and committee members of diverse and varying backgrounds.
