Film Festival Volunteers

THIRD ACTion Film Festival is looking for volunteers for our 2022 festival happening from June 10 – 12, 2022. We want you to have a great time, meet amazing people, enjoy some fantastic films, and to be able to exclaim I was a part of that!.

Come and be a part of bringing the festival to life! There are various volunteer positions that fit everyone’s interests, and you get a snazzy volunteer T-shirt to show off to your family and friends! You get some great experience and will meet a large variety of people! There are more great things that come with volunteering with THIRD ACTion Film Festival, but we have to leave some things to surprise!

You will be working at a great venue, or virtually with our online portion of the festival, and can volunteer for as little as one shift.

The positions available for in-person are:

  • Assistant Venue Chief: In this role you will be welcoming the volunteers, helping them get organized, signed in and set up. You will also be available to help with any questions/issues that may arise.
  • Street Team: You will engage passersby to let them know about the festival and the screenings and encourage them to partake in the Wisdom Bench/Tree. This role requires you to be outgoing and comfortable being outside in all weather.
  • Wisdom Bench: You will be sitting on our Wisdom Bench and talking with any members of the public that wish to get some words of wisdom from you and listen to anyone that wants to share their wisdom with you. This role requires you to be a good listener and talker and comfortable sitting outside in all weather. The Wisdom Bench will be under market tents.
  • Wisdom Tree: You will provide pieces of paper to members of the public who would like to share some words of wisdom to put on our Wisdom Tree. This role requires you to have good customer service skills and be comfortable being outside in all weather. The Wisdom Tree will be underneath market tents.
  • Registration table: You will be registering those who have not pre-registered for the event. You should be comfortable using a computer
  • Runner/Cake Table: You will be helping fetch items for stations/volunteers and then after the screening, serving cake to attendees for the celebration.
  • Usher: You will be in charge of scanning guests’ tickets and assisting those who require wheelchair or walker access seating. Ushers will get to watch the film, as they will be in the theatre once the screening begins.
  • Box Office: You will be selling tickets or passes to those who have not pre-purchased them. You should be comfortable handling cash and a POS machine.
  • Concession Stand: You will be in charge of selling snacks, drinks, and merchandise. Must be comfortable handling cash and using a POS machine.
  • Photographer/Social Media: As photographer, you will take pictures of everything going on at the festival and post to social media during downtime. Must supply your own equipment (it can be either a camera or your phone).
  • Resource Table: You will be answering peoples’ questions about the brochures laid out on the table. This role requires you to be outgoing and willing to chat.
  • Survey Team: You will need to approach people and ask if they are willing to participate in the festival’s survey.
  • Venue Chief: You will assist in training and managing the volunteers and assisting with any issues that may arise. Rotate throughout the teams to make sure everyone is doing okay and having a good time. Due to the requirements of this position, you will receive a $250 honorarium for every venue chief position you sign up for.
  • Volunteer Lounge Manager: You will manage the volunteer lounge space and the contents within the room.

The positions available for online:

  • Assistant Venue Chief: You will greet and assist online volunteers, speakers, and guests on the Zoom call as they sign in. After the screening ends, you will provide a quick debrief to the Venue Chief to let them know how things went.
  • Chatroom Moderator: You will encourage discussion in the chatroom and post various links relevant to the screening. No screen time is required for this position but you should have a good typing speed.
  • Tech Host: You will have access to the THIRD ACTion Film Festival’s help desk email and assist our patrons with any tech issues that may arise with using the online platform (e.g. they cannot find their link to the online platform, having difficulty with sound/video, etc.). You should be fairly comfortable with Zoom and using a computer as well as fairly outgoing and customer service oriented.

Please note that if wanting to volunteer in person at the event, there will be a mandatory Volunteer Orientation on Saturday, May 28, 2022, from 10:00am – 12:00pm.

If volunteering for our online portion, you must sign up for one of our dry runs to make sure everything goes smoothly during the event.
