Gallery Associate
Term: Part time moving to full time, Wednesday – Friday, 9:30am – 5:30pm and extra hours for receptions, events and art fairs as required.

Job Description
An enthusiastic advocate for art, the gallery associate will work with a small team to run the day-to-day operations of a commercial art gallery. They will complete essential daily administrative tasks, collaborate with colleagues to organize gallery exhibitions, and fair booths, and offer exceptional service to clients. Strong writing and research skills are essential for this role, as the Associate will be responsible for writing essays for gallery exhibitions and website content.
Key Functions and Responsibilities:
- Assist with standard gallery procedures including accessioning new acquisitions, inventory control, installation, exhibition, appraisals, and grant applications.
- Assist with administration including data entry, electronic filing, invoicing, and statements.
- Assist with sales and client contact while providing excellent customer service.
- Responsible for all online enquiries. The ability to switch between client interaction and independent work is highly necessary for this role.
- Assistance with marketing including writing and editing for advertising, publications and web content related to the current exhibition schedule.
Skills/Leadership Qualities:
Excellent written and verbal communication, and interpersonal skills; excellent organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines; strong research skills; detail-oriented, ability to work on multiple tasks; polite phone, email and in-person manner essential.
Qualifications and Experience:
- Must have prior experience working a commercial gallery or retail setting
- Familiarity with ArtSystems or other art gallery management systems strongly preferred; proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Photoshop required
- Art history degree or equivalent education and/or experience
- Strong writing and research skills required
- Proficiency in written and spoken English required; proficiency in French or other language an asset
- G driver’s license an asset; ability to lift objects over 20lbs
- Interest in and/or experience with contemporary art a strong asset
