About New Works Calgary
New Works Calgary is a presenter of contemporary and experimental music in Calgary. We are committed to fostering an inclusive and diverse artistic community and supporting innovative programming that enriches the cultural landscape. Our programming includes 4–6 concerts per year plus a monthly soundwalk series.
We are currently seeking a general manager to work alongside the artistic director in leading the organization. This is a part-time contract role with flexible hours, ideal for someone with experience in arts administration and a passion for new music.

General Manager Responsibilities
Programming Support
In consultation with the artistic director:
- Prepare and deliver artist contracts
- Facilitate artist payments
- Coordinate venue bookings, contracts and payments
- Ensure proper insurance coverage is in place (board and event liability)
- Oversee concert receptions, catering and liquor licensing
- Liaise with artists regarding travel, accommodation and transportation
- Maintain statistics and documentation for each concert
- Collaborate together with the production coordinator and artistic director to ensure all logistical details are in place for successful events
Client Relations
- Manage ticket sales (venue or mobile apps such as Square/Showpass)
- Train and support volunteers (Front-of-House, bar, merchandise)
- Oversee memberships
Funding Development
- Lead grant writing and reporting with the artistic director
- Provide financial/statistical info for applications and reports
- Stay up to date on grant deadlines and new opportunities
- Support fundraising events and donor stewardship (issue tax receipts and thank-you letters)
- Assist with casino fundraising (licensing, advisors, volunteer coordination, cheque preparation)
Finances
- Collaborate with the board and artistic director to develop annual budgets
- Manage bank accounts, deposits, payments and bookkeeping (QuickBooks Online)
- Reconcile bank statements and generate monthly financial reports
- Prepare year-end financial statements and facilitate board audit
- File GST returns and issue T4NR slips/remittances as needed
Legal Reporting
- Ensure New Works Calgary remains in good standing through:
- Alberta Society Annual Return
- CRA T3010 charity return
- AGLC casino reports
- Entandem quarterly music licensing reports
General Administration
- Attend monthly board meetings and prepare reports
- Monitor organizational communications and mailbox
- Maintain digital and physical records
- Organize materials for University of Calgary archives
Qualifications:
- Experience in arts administration or nonprofit management
- Strong organizational and communication skills
- Knowledge of grant writing and financial reporting is an asset
- Familiarity with QuickBooks Online, ticketing platforms and fundraising tools is a plus
- A collaborative spirit and commitment to equity and inclusion
