The Alberta University of the Arts (AUArts) is looking for a professional, detail-oriented, and proactive Institutional Data Analyst.

This is a permanent, full-time position to start as soon as possible. Hours of work are 35 hours per week.

The Alberta University of the Arts offers its 1,100 students studio-based programming that leads to a bachelor of fine arts in one of nine disciplines, a bachelor of design in one of two, and an MFA in Craft Media. It has deep roots in Calgary’s creative community and will soon be celebrating its centennial.

The Opportunity

Reporting to the Director, Academic Resources, the Institutional Data Analyst supports the institution’s strategic planning process by providing data analysis and reporting though current practice audits, key interest groups consultation, and the development of governance standards to inform evidenced-based decision making at Alberta University of the Arts.

Key Responsibilities

Institutional Data Analysis and Reporting:

  • Develops and prepares analytical models, reports, and data visualizations to inform evidence-based decision making at the University.
  • Supports performance indicator development and trends and patterns monitoring for institutional strategic and academic planning and government reporting purposes.
  • Prepares annual and customized reports and presentations for Cabinet and Academic Leadership.
  • Prepares annual and customized reports for AUArts to meet provincial reporting requirements as well as those for other external stakeholders/partners.
  • Performs enrollment analysis to support workforce and program planning.
  • Performs workforce analysis and compiles reports to support collective agreement bargaining.
  • Performs data collection, review and analysis on confidential information related to the University’s EDI strategy.
  • Designs, implements, launches, reports and communicates student and graduate surveys and survey results.
  • Responds to internal requests for statistical summary data and identifies opportunities to reduce duplication, errors, and ensure consistent reporting.
  • Uses external data to analyze and benchmark institutional data.

Institutional Data Management:

  • In cooperation with data stewards, ensures institutional data is accurate, consistent and properly maintained and shared in compliance with relevant privacy, confidentiality and ethical standards.
  • Identifies and addresses data integrity and reliability issues and employs data cleaning processes to maintain institutional data quality standards.
  • Identifies opportunities to reduce duplication, errors and ensure consistent reporting.
  • Uses best practices for reporting, cleaning, and visualization and proposes new processes and standards required to maintain clear and consistent data quality standards.


  • Develops and writes accurate data reports and visualizations to convey complex information in an understandable and compelling manner.
  • Provides relevant and essential context and conditions for interpreting data and informing decision-making.
  • Designs and creates analytical models and tools that allow stakeholders to self-serve and explore opportunities for academic planning initiatives and program innovation.
  • Ensures timely communication to institutional leaders on developments, projects and impacts to standard operating practices.
  • Serves on university committees, working groups, and institutional business units offering data governance and analytical expertise and fosters transparent and collaborative approaches to project stewardship and outcomes.

The successful candidate will have:

  • Minimum 4-year diploma or baccalaureate degree in a relevant field such as social sciences, computer science, or business administration with a background in research methodology and statistics.
  • 3 – 5 years relevant experience in data collection, management, and analysis.
  • Post-secondary or related public sector experience is required.
  • Experience with Student Information Systems (Banner), Argos, Access, Moodle (Mosaic) is an asset.
  • Strong knowledge of MS Office 365 (including Excel, Power Automate, Flow, Forms).
  • Strong project management, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills with a strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to prioritize and multi-task in a deadline-driven environment.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team.
  • Ability to demonstrate initiative and provide information accurately and quickly upon request.
