For fifty years, the Calgary Boys’ Choir has been delivering dynamic, engaging, high-quality choral instruction, performance opportunities and formative experiences designed for boys.
Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the artistic director, the intermediate choir director’s primary duties will be to:
- Lead weekly 90 minute rehearsals from September – May for boys grades 3 – 5, focusing on choral skills and musicianship
- Participate in choral workshops (2 over the course of the season)
- Prepare and co-conduct boys in 2 main stage and 2 community-based concerts per season
- Participate in two camps per season (November/February) as outlined in the season calendar
- Extra possible mutually agreed upon rehearsals/concerts based on availability
Additional duties:
- Work together with and coordinate repertoire programming with the artistic director
- Assist/conduct rehearsals and performances with the other Calgary Boys’ Choir ensembles, as required
- Attend all classes and any extra mutually agreed upon events as outlined in the season calendar
- Participate in fundraising events and other administrative duties as required
- Communicate regularly and openly with the artistic and administrative staff, keeping abreast of all information as outlined in choir memos
- Attend all Artistic Meetings and occasional board meetings
- Other duties may be requested by the Artistic Director and will be discussed as they arise
Qualifications:
- Undergraduate degree in music education or performance
- Music education an asset
- Conducting experience of 2 – 5 years, with at least one year conducting children
- Experience teaching children and youth
- An understanding of vocal pedagogy
- Excellent theory and musicianship skills
- Proficient piano skills (for rehearsing and basic accompaniment)
- Strong organizational and interpersonal skills
- Positive and enthusiastic attitude
