Submitted work will be reviewed for relevance, artistic merit, and fit. Accepted work will be shown in a feature exhibition hosted by Mount Royal University as part of the Exposure Photography Festival during the month of February 2020, and will remain on display for a full calendar year.

Here’s What You Need To Do

Submit a series of two to four images, all from a specific location, along with a written statement of approx. 1,500 characters (250 words) in length that describes your experience and what you are trying to reflect with your images, whether that is differences in culture, commonalities, etc. The series must be an interconnected body of work. You must also include your website (if applicable), and any relevant social media feeds.

Notification: November 15, 2019

Free submission, but artists who are selected will be required to deliver professionally printed and framed work at their own cost. Specification details to be provided.

The artist fee is $50 per image.

The Fine Print—Rules and Regulations

Each image file can be a maximum of 5MB in size. All images must be submitted as JPEGs—any files submitted in any other format (including TIFF, PDF, PSD, etc.) will not be reviewed. The filename of your image must be your surname followed by the city, followed by 01, 02, 03, etc. (e.g. JonesCalgary01.jpg). The images can be shot in any format, using any camera, on film or digital. There are no restrictions on when the submitted images were taken. Multiple submissions for different cities will also be accepted.

Accepted work will need to be professionally printed and framed to specifications dictated by the organizers. Instructions for printing and framing will be included in the acceptance notification sent by email. Final pieces ready to be hung must be delivered no later than January 10, 2020, with the understanding they will be on display at Mount Royal University’s discretion for a full calendar year.

Digital files of the winning images will be used for press and publicity purposes. Mount Royal University reserve the right to display, reproduce and publish in any media, any entry, without payment, for the sole purpose of promotion and publicity for Mount Royal University, and the Exposure Photography Festival, now and in the future. No copyright is transferred to Mount Royal University in respect of any works entered or accepted. Each entrant will be deemed to warrant they own the entire copyright for the work or that they have permission from the licensee and/or copyright owner(s) for the uses. All relevant clearances and/or model releases must have been obtained for the use of the photographs for publication and exhibition.
