Intro to Etching

The deadline for this opportunity has passed.

Instructor: Kate Baillies
Date: February 9, 16 & 23, 2020
Time: 10:00am – 3:00pm (each day)

In this class, you will learn about and experiment with traditional intaglio techniques to incise line, value and texture etched into the surface of a copper plate using ferric acid.

Local artist and printmaker Kate Baillies will teach you how to prepare your plate and develop your imagery. With Alberta Printmakers’ commitment to using less toxic materials, you will be using BIG ground and greener materials than what was used in traditional etching, while still achieving the visual same results. You will learn the processes of inking and printing your plate, and hand-pull your own edition on A/P’s intaglio press!

BIG (Baldwin Intaglio Ground) was developed by Andrew Baldwin at Aberystwyth Printmakers in Wales, as a greener alternative to traditional asphaltum etching grounds. It is very versatile and easy to use.

All materials provided.

Class includes one additional studio rental day to print!

Class Size: Four
A/P Members: $275
Non-members: $300
