Responsibility Matters is a boutique consulting firm established in 2002. We deliver end-to-end services related to sustainability/ESG (environment, social, and governance) reporting. Our services include strategic planning and project management, report writing, data collection and analysis, and report design. We work with clients of all sizes and from a broad range of industries, and their operations span the globe.

About Our Team

We are a small team with diverse but complementary backgrounds (engineering, sociology, and communications) and we collaborate extensively to deliver ESG/sustainability reports for our clients. We share an unbridled enthusiasm for sustainability, good design, and raising the bar. Our team is based out of Calgary.

What You Will Be Doing

Reporting to the firm’s principal, and working closely with our senior associates, you are primarily responsible for the graphic design of ESG/sustainability reports for a range of clients. ESG reporting is an exciting and rapidly growing field which offers the chance to create engaging and impactful design collateral. This position offers on-the-job instruction, is a part-time role (with full-time work expected between November to April), and is based out of our Calgary office.

You will:

  • Have the opportunity to design for a variety of corporate brands and clients.
  • Create, develop, and progress new designs from concept to completion.
  • Lay out pre-written content for each project.
  • Design creative assets for digital and print use, including interactive reports, publications, social media graphics, PowerPoint slides, website graphics, etc.
  • Develop/illustrate custom icons, graphics, data visualizations and supplementary assets as required.
  • Leverage client imagery and/or source appropriate imagery to enhance design.
  • Proofread/review designed materials, making edits as requested.
  • Clearly communicate design ideas and project status updates to colleagues on a regular basis.
  • Effectively manage your time and priorities, including project planning, execution, and follow up.

Qualifications

  • Degree or diploma in graphic design, visual communication/arts, or related discipline.
  • Strong graphic design portfolio (e.g.: newsletters, reports, proposals, publications, or the like).
  • Workplace experience is not required, but samples of work need to be provided.
  • Thorough proficiency in Adobe InDesign, InCopy, Illustrator, and Photoshop.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office programs, especially Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Proficiency with print/layout design and typography.
  • Superior attention to detail and quality of work—precision and thoroughness are required.
  • Ability to interpret and clarify design requests, identify objectives, and recommend graphic concepts.
  • A strong eye for visual composition.
  • Highly organized—effective time management skills and capable of meeting deadlines.
  • Interest in corporate sustainability and ESG.
  • Ability to deliver client-ready work.
  • Candidates with illustration skills will be given preference.

  • Work hours are flexible but must be available from 9:30am to 3:30pm for meetings.
  • Five weeks of vacation: Two weeks in December and three weeks flexible.
