Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Distinguished Artist Award
This is the last chance to nominate an outstanding Alberta artist for the 2021 Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Distinguished Artist Award.
Since 2005, 20 distinguished artists have been awarded with this award—Alberta’s most prestigious recognition of outstanding achievement in the arts.
Deadline for nominations is February 21, 2021, 11:59:00pm.
This award recognizes Alberta artists—from all arts disciplines—for:
- The highest degree of artistic excellence.
- Career achievement or a significant body of work.
- A breakthrough contribution, including pushing the boundaries of the art form.
- Significant impact on, and contribution to, the arts in Alberta.
In order to be eligible to receive the award, nominees must be:
- Canadian citizens.
- Current Alberta residents or those who have had, and who maintain, a significant connection to the arts in the province of Alberta..
NB: Self nominations not accepted.
Up to three awards of $30,000 each are awarded every other year (odd years). Recipients also receive a hand-cast medal, a pin, a framed citation, and, where appropriate, a two-week residency at the Banff Centre Leighton Artist Studios.
The awards will be presented by her Honour Salma Lakhani, the Lieutenant Governor of Alberta on June 12, 2021, at a celebration hosted in Lac la Biche, Alberta.
