Marketing Manager

Headquartered in Calgary, Honens is Canada’s only International Piano Competition. The triennial event, considered one
of the most prestigious of its kind in the world, awards its Prize Laureate $100,000 CAD as well as a three-year comprehensive
Artist Development Program which, through opportunities for professional growth and global exposure, helps to navigate the
rigours and realities of establishing a performance career in classical music. The annual Honens Festival features a balance of
ticketed and free community-based concerts and events which highlight an impressive roster of local, national and
international artists and is programmed to engage audiences of all ages, orientations, backgrounds, and levels of musical

The marketing manager supports all elements of marketing and works to achieve Honens’ values of excellence, creativity,
integrity, and engagement in all areas of activity. This role is a full-time, permanent position reporting to the president & CEO.



  • Works with communications manager, artistic director and president & CEO to develop, implement and elevate the Honens brand.
  • Manages budget, development and execution of the annual marketing campaign.
  • Supervises the box office functions of Honens to ensure a superior patron experience.
  • Oversees database management (Spektrix).
  • Develops sales strategies to reach ticket revenue targets.
  • Manages marketing materials including banners and other marketing collateral required for the promotion of concerts
    and Honens activities.
  • Analyses ticket revenue results, conducts surveys and adjusts strategies accordingly.
  • Works with communications manager to develop, design, and schedule all announcements (including the announcement
    of the Honens Prize Laureate).
  • Works with communications manager to supervise new website design / update.
  • Analyzes website analytics and devises plan for improving user experience.
  • Researches and implements search engine optimization recommendations.
  • Recommends changes to website architecture, content and linking to improve SEO positions.
  • Builds and maintains strong relationships with marketing, tourism and community partners.
  • Assists development team with sponsorship materials and grant writing.
  • Along with director of audience & donor engagement, designs and implements strategies for growing Honens’ audience
    and donor community.
  • Enriches partnerships through excellent service and timely communication.

Media Relations

  • Along with communications manager, collaborates with publicists in national and international markets to develop
    effective marketing strategies.
  • Works with communications manager to engage and manage relationships with media partners as needed and hosts
    visiting media when necessary.


  • Together with the director of artistic planning and communications manager, develops and implements a strategy for the
    release of Honens label recordings.
  • Develops and implements a strategy, in collaboration with publicists, for the promotion of Honens label recordings.
  • Co-manages the Honens label with the artistic director and director of artistic planning:
    • Manages design and manufacturing of recordings
    • Collaborates with distributors


  • Supervises contract box office manager during competition seasons.

Candidate Profile & Attributes

  • Bachelor’s degree in marketing/communications/public relations.
  • Proficiency in all Adobe products.
  • Proficiency in most Microsoft products in an Apple environment.
  • Creative thinker.
  • Community connector.
  • Ability to inspire trust and confidence in stakeholders: ticket-buyers, donors, partners and volunteers.
  • Highly organized and detail oriented.
  • Capable of performing under pressure and working to deadlines.
  • Team player who is flexible and dedicated to getting the job done.
  • Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Knowledge of Spektrix considered an asset.
  • Knowledge and interest in classical music considered as asset.
