Music Mile Coordinator

Music Mile is an alliance of stakeholders and other people committed to Calgary’s live music scene. The board of directors are the members of the society for legal purposes, but musicians, music venues, and other stakeholders along the mile take an active part in decision-making, promotion, and collaborative activities.
Their operations—over 50 live music events every week pre-COVID, plus other non-music events—are what makes Music Mile a distinct and animated destination.
This is the first paid position created by the Music Mile Society.
All duties of the coordinator and activities of the society are in flux due to COVID-19. Our focus in currently on the survival of our venues and artists.
Hours: 20 hours/week for six months
Pay: $2,300/month
Key Relationships: The coordinator will report directly to the Music Mile board and executive
Responsibilities
We will work with the chosen candidate to identify the top priorities from the responsibilities and deliverables below.
Internal Communications and Coordination:
- Coordinate, attend and record board and stakeholder meetings.
- Assist with committee coordination and records as needed.
- Manage day-to-day relationships with Music Mile businesses, venues, and artists.
External Communications:
- Manage external partner relations in conjunction with designated board members (e.g. Tourism Calgary, West Anthem, Calgary Arts Development).
- Serve as an ambassador for Music Mile, occasionally speaking to media on behalf of the organization.
- Secure media coverage for Music Mile.
Marketing:
- Maintain Music Mile’s online calendar of events and add weekly news items.
- Manage Music Mile’s social media presence, identify and create content, identify opportunities for collaborations.
- Develop and manage a new monthly newsletter, with content assistance from board members and stakeholders.
- Help establish brand visibility in the area, partnering with venues, businesses, and artists (e.g. key messages, logo use style guide, promotional materials).
- Develop and implement an annual content plan for recurring activities, including content for monthly community newsletters, concierge email, etc.
- Maintain graphic assets and encourage stakeholders to make use of them.
- Oversee map updates (printing and distribution), signage, other assets.
- Oversee production of swag, volunteer t-shirts etc., working with a designer.
- Develop a one-year plan for the Music Mile promo tent.
- Assist in the development of a Music Mile marketing plan.
Volunteer Coordination:
- Create a volunteer application form.
- Coordinate staffing for the promo tent and fundraising events.
Administration:
- Bank deposits on behalf of the treasurer if needed.
- Develop and maintain contact lists by role (i.e. venue, artist, youth artists, etc.).
- Manage Music Mile’s phone and email communications.
- Organize and store all society records including minutes (with the board secretary), emails, Dropbox, other.
Fundraising:
- Assist the fundraising committee, grant researcher, and writers as needed.
Qualifications
The Music Mile Coordinator will possess the following skills and attributes:
- Be enthusiastic and self-motivated.
- Be knowledgeable about Music Mile and its importance to the city of Calgary.
- Be passionate about music.
- Have strong organizational skills.
- Have excellent communications skills, both written and verbal.
- Have experience and skills in marketing, branding and social media.
- Enjoy the challenge of building a community with many constituent parts.
The start date is to be negotiated—preferably on or near the first week of January 2021.
