Join us in celebrating our city’s vibrant literary talent by nominating a deserving individual for the prestigious role of Calgary Poet Laureate for 2024 to 2026. Established on July 26, 2011, the position is a testament to our city’s commitment to the arts, supported by dedicated Calgary Poet Laureate Ambassadors, including the Calgary Foundation and the Calgary Public Library.
Administered by Calgary Arts Development in collaboration with a volunteer selection committee, each Calgary Poet Laureate serves a two-year term. This artistic ambassador role involves presenting at civic events and creating literary works that capture the essence of our city and its diverse citizens.
Timeline
- February 15, 2024: Nominations open
- March 15, 2024: Nominations close
- March 6 – 22, 2024: Selection committee reviews nomination packages and determines shortlist
- Week of March 25, 2024: Shortlist nominees notified and scheduled for interviews and presentations
- Week of April 1, 2024: Shortlisted nominees’ interviews and presentations
- April 5 – 7, 2024: Selection committee makes final decision
- Week of April 8, 2024: All nominees notified of final Poet Laureate decision
- By April 30, 2024: Calgary Poet Laureate announced
