Technical Director

NUTV, the University of Calgary’s campus-based television station, is looking for a creative, innovative, and enthusiastic technical director to join our team. We offer hands-on media training and production opportunities on our weekly video releases which are created entirely by student volunteers.

The technical director position is focused on maintenance of our production and editing equipment, reenforcing our member training, and is responsible for the programming of our television screens in MacEwan Hall. There will also be some captioning, graphic design and video editing involved with this position.

The technical director will work 30 hours per week for an annual salary of $50,000, with five weeks paid vacation and matching RRSP and health benefits. This position reports directly to the producer and executive director and is expected to collaborate with all staff and volunteers.

Duties Include:

  • Working closely with the producer to ensure that all production and editing equipment is functional, up-to-date, and facilitating any necessary replacements or repairs.
  • Leadership and guidance for our volunteers to reinforce their production and editing training.
  • Updating our ten screens in MacEwan Hall with new content and advertisements.
  • Working with our clients and the students union clubs on the technical requirements of their screen ads.
  • Creating captions and thumbnails for our weekly releases.
  • Maintaining our shared database and server.
  • Hosting semi-annual technical workshops.
  • Collaborating with our volunteers, clients and the campus community to maximize the success of their ads and projects.
  • Other Duties as required.

Qualifications:

  • Editing software experience (at least two to five years).
  • Digital camcorder experience (at least two to five years).
  • Graphic design skills.
  • Familiarity with managing a database.
  • Strong leadership skills.
  • Ability to work independently
