Painting the Clothed Figure

With Bobbi Dunlop

Like other educational institutions in Alberta, we have decided to postpone all courses and events until further notice. Although our studio is small in numbers and has lots of physical space, we feel it is very important that everyone does their part to protect the health and safety of our community.

Dates: Thursdays, March 19 – April 23, 2020,
1:00 – 3:30pm
Duration: Six-week course
Cost: $350
Level: Some painting experience to advanced

In this session, we will explore the clothed or draped figure, from life. Our primary focus, through direct observation, will be how clothing affects the shape of the body, paying close attention to such major concepts as light and beautiful paint quality while exploring the design possibilities of fabric. All while staying true to the fundamentals in order to portray convincing fabric: shape, value, edges, and colour.

Students will work in oil (or acrylic). Special emphasis will be placed on massing, abstract visual ideas, concepts, paint quality, painting studies and exercises, the fundamentals: shape, value, edges and colour. Students will be using photo references in the first 2 weeks and painting the model from life in the final weeks. Many classes will begin with an oil painting demo.Registrants will receive the course supply list.

*Course includes model fees.
